Planting Phlox

  • Selecting the right planting site is of immense importance when you're growing phlox. The plants' requirement of sunlight varies significantly with the type of phlox so pick the site accordingly.
  • Phlox have been known to do well even in poor quality soil. I'd still advise you to plant them in moist soil with good drainage.
  • Spring is the perfect time for planting phlox. Use a garden fork to loosen the soil at the planting site, digging to a depth of 10-15 inches. Add ample quantities of manure or peat moss to the soil and mix well.
  • The planting hole should be a big enough to accommodate the root ball. When planting, make sure that the top portion of the root ball is level with the ground. Refill and water thoroughly.
Phlox plants require regular irrigation to do well. Make certain the soil never dries out at any point during the growing phase.Phlox plants are ideal for landscaping, look amazing in the borders and can be used to underline shrubs or trees. They also blend in with both rock garden and cottage garden settings and, being irresistible to hummingbirds and butterflies, are certain to fill your space with and joy and appeal!
