Tree roses are striking garden plants created by grafting rose shrubs onto a straight, strong rose cane that should be staked at planting time. Their bushy spray of fragrant blooms and foliage atop a central support creates a genuinely dramatic look by bringing both closer to eye level. Use tree roses as a focal point in the garden, to frame a doorway, to add height to a border or to add interest to a plain wall. They look particularly spectacular when planted closely together in small groups. They are also impressive in containers sitting on a patio or porch. Because they are not very hardy, some gardeners in colder climates place them in the landscape in pots and then move them indoors for the winter.
