Description

7–10' tall stems bear up to 20 enormous, sweet-smelling blooms.

Towering stalks crowned with large, trumpet-shaped flowers make the seldom-offered Giant Himalayan Lily a true garden marvel and one of the world's most unique and desirable flowering plants. The white blooms, accented by reddish-purple streaks, emit a heavenly scent that draws butterflies and pollinators throughout the summer. Perfect for woodland gardens or, in cooler zones, large containers, it thrives in light shade with moist soil. Its striking foliage—hostalike leaves reach up to 15" long—adds texture and interest even before the flowers emerge. 

While a lily bulb will typically produce flowers year after year, the Giant Himalayan Lily is very different. After flowering, the main bulb dies, but small new bulbs are formed. Known as offsets, these small bulbs will take 4-5 years to flower—but they're well worth the wait! Awarded a place among the Royal Horticultural Society's top 200 plants of the last two centuries, this lily leaves small, bulblike structures for future blooms, while seed capsules extend its charm into autumn. Ideal for adding drama to shaded borders or naturalized settings.
