Description
Square-patterned blooms!Fritillaria meleagris is native to Europe and western Asia, and has been in cultivation for centuries. The name meleagris means "spotted like a guinea fowl." This fascinating plant features bell-shaped, 2" flowers with a unique chequered pattern. These graceful, nodding blooms, which grow one or two to a stem, are usually burgundy, but an occasional flower is white. Its tiny, grey-green leaves start to yellow in late spring to early summer. Can be grown in grass, rock gardens or water gardens, but we suggest planting in large groups. Naturalizes well.
